Clifton Town Council approves FY2019 budget, adopts tax rates and authorizes expenditures

The Clifton Town Council approved the FY2019 budget, adopted tax rates and authorized expenditures at its June 5, 2018 regular meeting.
Councilmember Wayne Nickum moved to approve the FY2019 budget as discussed at the May 8 public hearing; Councilmember Darrell Poe seconded and the motion passed on roll-call with all members recorded as "Aye." The council subsequently voted to authorize expenditures under the FY19 budget and to adopt the FY19 tax rates and fees; both motions passed by roll-call with unanimous support.
The council reviewed financial statements presented by Treasurer Marilyn Barton, who circulated detailed May 31, 2018 financial reports showing total cash balances of $1,208,362.66 and line-item highlights including committee fundraising, community hall rentals, reimbursements from VDOT for Streetscape Phase 2, and recent contractual expenditures. The reports flagged estimated May interest on United Bank CDs and noted that the Treasurer was resolving online access to CD accounts.
Other meeting actions: the council approved the May 2018 minutes (motion by Councilmember Wayne Nickum, seconded by Councilmember Regan McDonald) and approved the Treasurer’s report (motion by Councilmember Darrell Poe, seconded by Councilmember Wayne Nickum), each by poll vote with all members recorded in favor. Councilmember Nickum moved to place proposed ordinance changes regarding lot line adjustments on next month’s agenda; Mayor Hollaway seconded and that motion passed 6–0. Mayor Hollaway moved to approve $2,900 in funding for a town retirement celebration scheduled June 24 at the Clifton Barn; Vice Mayor Jennifer Heilmann seconded. The roll-call recorded Nickum: Abstain; McDonald: Aye; Milne: Aye; Hollaway: Aye; Heilmann: Aye; Poe: Aye (motion approved).
The council approved adjournment by poll vote at the meeting's close.
