Clifton council authorizes Streetscape Phase 2 60% engineering designs for VDOT submission

The Clifton Town Council on July 3 authorized the Special Projects Committee to proceed to 60% designs for the Main Street Streetscape Phase 2 and to submit an engineering site plan to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Councilmember Regan McDonald moved for the resolution; Councilmember Darrell Poe seconded and the motion passed on a roll-call vote, with Hinderstein, McDonald, Milne, Hollaway, Effros and Poe voting "Aye."
The council's authorization directs staff and the project's consultants to advance the design package required for VDOT review and permit considerations. Mayor Bill Hollaway noted the town must amend the Clifton General Store loading-space requirement to enable a right-of-way easement at that location, a change project staff will pursue as designs are finalized.
The funding background for the work appears in the Town's capital improvements accounting: J2 Engineering invoiced for streetscape design work and VDOT MAP-21 streetscape funding is listed in the June financial materials reviewed at the meeting. The council did not vote on additional funding at this meeting; the authorization covers design advancement only.
Next steps are to complete the 60% design set, submit the engineering site plan to VDOT and return to the council with any permitting or funding requests that require formal action.
