Committee moves to put $75,000 Tourism Asset Grant request on council agenda for Whitkey Park

The ordinance committee was told on March 23 that city staff plans to apply to the Department of Commerce for a Tourism Asset Grant requesting $75,000 to resurface, replumb and add features to the Whitkey Park water park.
The committee chair said the grant application deadline is April 2 and that the grant requires a 10% local match. Staff reported Healthy Communities is holding $17,100 for the Revive Glendive effort; the chair said the city would only need about $7,500 of that amount to meet the match and proposed putting the grant request on the council agenda to certify that funds are available.
Committee members were told staff has most of the application complete and only needs final input to submit. The chair said the grant is being pursued because the water park surface currently has sharp edges and needs resurfacing with a material that will withstand winters; renovating the facility would also add features and a maintenance reserve. The committee agreed to place the item on an upcoming council agenda so the city can proceed with the application process.
