Greer — The City Council on July 14 gave first readings to two ordinances that would annex parcels fronting West Wade Hampton Boulevard and establish Commercial Corridor zoning.
Staff presented both items as consistent with the city’s comprehensive plan and noted surrounding parcels are already commercial. The first ordinance (20‑2026) would annex two parcels owned by Sandra Maccabee on South Subaru Road/West Wade Hampton Boulevard; staff recommended approval and scheduled a public hearing for July 20. Marshall McAtee, who said the parcel is owned by his mother, came to the podium to note the same developer appears to be assembling parcels and that development concepts have changed several times.
The second ordinance (21‑2026) would annex property owned by Greer Gun and Pawn Shop Incorporated, adjacent to the previously discussed parcels. Staff said the parcels are consistent with commercial corridor zoning and also set a July 20 public hearing.
Both items received a first reading by show of hands; council discussion centered on development intent and the scheduling of the public hearing rather than on objections to annexation or zoning. The property owners or representatives were asked to be available at the public hearing for questions.
