Mason Consolidated Schools board approves equipment purchases, contracts and staffing actions

MASON — The Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education on Aug. 6, 2025, approved a series of vendor contracts and personnel actions, voting unanimously on each item during a meeting that opened at 6:03 p.m. and adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
Board President Otting led the meeting, and motions throughout the session passed by 5-0 votes. Board Member Grodi moved to accept a $65,050 quote from Monroe Plumbing and Heating Company for the Filter First Fixture Replacement and Installation Project; Board Member Nehrig supported that motion, which carried.
The board also approved two food-service purchases from the excess fund balance: a Hobart elementary dishwasher purchased from TriMark SS Kemp for $41,251 and a three-door True Manufacturing refrigerator from HPS for $7,728.38. Board Member Waller moved the dishwasher purchase; Board Member England supported the motion and the item passed unanimously.
Contract work for student activities was authorized when the board approved a contract with ATI Holdings, LLC for athletic trainer services. The board approved 2025-2026 individual staff contracts and adopted the 2025-2026 tax rate during the meeting; both motions were recorded as carried 5-0.
On personnel, the board voted to rehire Kelsey Cole as middle school English at Step 11 MA with an annual salary of $69,203. The board also approved the hire of Traci Fackelman for middle school special education at Step 10 BA, contingent on receipt of favorable criminal-history, reference and background checks.
Other routine items approved on the consent agenda included the July 9, 2025, meeting minutes, the 2025-2026 student handbooks for CES, MMS, and MSHS/MAVA, adoption of the 2025-2026 MHSAA Membership Resolution and authorization for Kelli Tuller to attend the MASA conference in Traverse City, Sept. 16–19, 2025. President Otting presented the July check register and financial report; the minutes note there were no questions.
Board members briefly noted community items — Board Member England mentioned the Luna Pier Parade and Board Member Grodi mentioned the Maplewood Fitness Park — before adjourning. The board set its next regular meeting for Sept. 3, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Mason Senior High School Library.
