Mason Consolidated Schools' administration told the board Oct. 1 that eight area schools intend to create a new Great Lakes League for football starting next fall. The district listed the participating schools as Mason, Summerfield, Whiteford, Sand Creek, Montpelier, Edon, Pioneer North Central High School and Hilltop.
The announcement was presented during the superintendent's report as an athletics update; no formal board action or vote on the league formation was recorded in the minutes. District officials said the new league would begin next fall, and further scheduling and logistics would be coordinated among the participating schools.
Board members and administrators did not raise objections in the meeting minutes. The board's next regular meeting is Nov. 5, 2025.
