SRO details safety upgrades as Mason board adopts revised emergency operations plan

Mason Consolidated Schools' School Resource Officer Bill Rollins told the board Oct. 1 that the district has implemented equipment upgrades, staff training and building modifications over the past two years and has added "go bags for every classroom and space and practice drills" to emergency routines. The update was part of the board's regular meeting at Mason Senior High School Library.
The board voted 4-0 to adopt a revised Emergency Operations Plan after the safety presentation. The motion to approve the EOP was made by John Waller and supported by (last name) England. Officials said the plan and recent assessments aim to standardize response steps across buildings and to incorporate lessons learned from recent drills and security reviews.
During the meeting administrators said the district has engaged Lockout USA to conduct additional safety assessments for areas not evaluated in an earlier round, including stadium and field areas. Officials said findings from that assessment will inform any further physical or procedural changes to the EOP.
The board's action follows routine reporting from the superintendent's office and the district's School Resource Officer. No public comment was received during the meeting. The board adjourned at 7:09 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 5, 2025.
