District staff told the board March 23 that Lincoln Elementary experienced a roof failure and that the district has engaged multiple contractors to expedite repairs.
Executive Director Boyd acknowledged rapid community response after the incident and thanked Great Falls Fire Rescue and other partners for their assistance. Mr. Deakins reported district facilities staff had four qualified roofing contractors visit Lincoln and that the contractors will provide bids by Friday. He said the board has scheduled a special session next Tuesday to review bids, accept a contract and begin renovation work with the goal of returning students to Lincoln as soon as possible.
Deakins cautioned the repair process is more complicated than a normal bid because the district does not yet have a full architect or engineering design for the project; however, several contractors and engineers familiar with similar roofs have completed district roof studies and can provide informed proposals.
Board members asked staff to be prepared to act quickly in the special session to finalize a contract and start repairs.
