Boyd also said the district is eligible to apply for an Under Armour Girls Flag Football Grant that could provide up to $30,000 per school as a one‑time startup fund.
Board members discussed scheduling and whether the sport would remain a fall activity if it eventually becomes an MHSA‑sanctioned sport. Boyd said it is slated as a fall sport for now and that the MHSA and athletic directors would adjust timing if necessary.
Trustee Skornagoski moved to approve girls flag football as a club activity overseen by GFPS Athletics for the 2026–27 and 2027–28 school years; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board directed athletics staff to pursue grant funding opportunities and to manage the club program within existing athletic oversight.
