Council adopts floodplain and tree-board ordinance changes to conform with FEMA and adjust board membership

The Central Falls City Council unanimously approved two ordinance amendments: one updating the city's flood-prevention regulations to conform with recent FEMA map updates, and another revising the tree advisory board's membership and responsibilities.
Joshua Magnon, principal deputy director for the planning department, told the council FEMA updated flood maps and the city was required to amend its ordinance so that the ordinance's map references and effective dates match the federal materials to preserve eligibility for the National Flood Insurance Program. "These changes are required by them to ensure that we're consistent with federal requirements and retain our national flood insurance eligibility," Magnon said.
In a separate ordinance, the council revised the tree advisory board's organization and duties. The change updates membership criteria, adds the tree warden as an ex officio member, clarifies duties related to street-tree care and when public works may intervene, and adopts some language from state law. Councilors said the revisions aim to improve oversight and tree planning across the city streets.
Both ordinance amendments passed on council motions recorded in the meeting (each vote recorded as 6–0).
