Board recognizes student athletes, approves personnel and policy updates
Summary
Trustees recognized Burns High student athletes for national and regional achievements, approved several personnel hires and resignations, renewed special services contracts and approved student/staff handbooks and a grading policy (IKA) on final reading.
The board opened its July 13 meeting by recognizing Burns High School athletes who set school and regional records and competed at the national meet in Oregon; trustees praised community fundraising that made the trip possible.
Later in the meeting the board approved several personnel actions (pending required certifications and background checks), including hires for instructional coach and head teacher roles, and accepted the resignation of a counselor. The board also approved renewal of special services contracts for therapy providers for the 2026–27 school year.
On policy, staff summarized handbook changes for the 2026–27 year (grading clarifications, cell‑phone guidance and inclusion of staff policies) and the board approved student, staff, transportation and activity handbooks. The board also approved policy IKA (grading system) on second and final reading during the meeting after finding no public comments.
The personnel, contract renewals and handbook approvals passed by voice votes; newly hired staff were welcomed and the board asked staff to ensure onboarding requirements are completed.
