City manager outlines clerk transition, vehicle replacement, park updates; DPW flags cemetery dog issues

Schneider said Newaygo’s Redevelopment Ready Communities status enabled the city to secure a Match on Main grant for the new owners of Newaygo Brewery. He also provided updates on the Pocket Park and the Welcome Sign; Schneider and staff identified bolded budget line items that require amendment and reported no wider concerns with the budget documents.
Ron Wight, DPW Superintendent, reported issues with dogs urinating on headstones and dog waste in the cemetery and proposed posting signs to prohibit dogs. Wight said DPW will inspect the Riverfront Phase 1 Park entrance and clear sand from the trail between Riverfront Parks using a hurricane blower. Schneider said council should consider the cemetery-sign proposal at the next meeting.
The council did not take formal action on the vehicle replacement or clerk transition at this meeting but directed staff to begin hiring and transition planning. The meeting adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
