Landover Hills explores hiring contractors after winter storm complicates removal

Public Works official Jim Schad told the Landover Hills Town Council at its Feb. 2 workshop that crews pre-treated streets before the recent storm but that extreme cold made snow and ice removal more difficult than usual.
Schad said the town lacked sufficient specialized equipment, so outside contractors were hired to plow town streets and clear ice. Town Manager Rommel Pazmino said he will explore hiring outside contractors on an ongoing basis to assist with snow and ice removal for streets and sidewalks because special equipment is required.
Vice Mayor Glenda Johnson urged the council to add snow-removal resources and guidance to the next town newsletter so residents know available services and expectations during storms. The council did not take a formal vote on a contractor procurement strategy at the workshop; Pazmino will report back with options and potential costs.
