The City of Plaquemine Mayor and Board of Selectmen on June 9, 2026 adopted a resolution authorizing the city to prepare and submit one or more applications through the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) for FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance, including the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) and Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) programs.
Selectman Brent Barbier moved the resolution, seconded by Selectman Michael K. Carlin, Sr. The resolution states the city recognizes the need to identify, evaluate and develop flood risk reduction and hazard mitigation strategies and authorizes the Mayor or a duly authorized designee to act on behalf of the city in preparing applications, executing certifications and agreements, and accepting awards if made. It also commits the city to provide any required non‑federal cost share from legally available funds or eligible non‑federal sources, contingent upon award and acceptance.
The resolution was adopted by unanimous vote (Yeas: Natasha S. Johnson, Brent Barbier, Michael K. Carlin, Sr., Wanda B. Jones, Thomas D. LeBlanc and Shannon P. Courtade). The resolution takes effect immediately upon adoption and instructs the Mayor or designee to prepare and submit applications and to execute any necessary documents to pursue and administer awards in compliance with applicable federal, state and local requirements.
