County team presents Preliminary Master Plan of Transportation to Landover Hills council

A county team from Go Prince George's presented the Preliminary Master Plan of Transportation to the Landover Hills Town Council on Nov. 3, outlining five sections of the plan and saying the update implements Plan 2035 and replaces the 2009 Countywide Master Plan of Transportation.

The presenters described the plan's five parts — introduction and background; policies and strategies; facilities recommendations; monitoring and evaluation; and appendices — and summarized priorities for countywide facilities and monitoring. The presentation was delivered to the council as part of a workshop agenda item; discussion followed but no formal action was taken.

Mayor Jeffrey Schomisch also noted a pending private project in town: Soltesz LLC has notified the town that it intends to submit a Detailed Site Plan and a Type 2 Tree Conservation Plan for the Landover Metro Project at 6900 Old Landover Rd, items that relate to local land-use and transportation decisions.

Why it matters: the county transportation plan sets priorities for regional facilities and policies that can affect town-level projects, grant competitiveness and future road or transit investments. The town will continue to monitor the Detailed Site Plan submittal and any county-level recommendations that affect local streets and transit access.

Next steps: council members received the presentation and discussed it during the workshop; no vote was recorded. Staff follow-up is expected if and when Soltesz LLC files formal plans with the town or the county.
