Chippewa County approves public‑private partnerships to support two broadband expansion projects

Chippewa County supervisors voted to approve two public‑private partnership agreements to support proposed fiber broadband expansion in eastern Chippewa County.
Resolution 22‑26 authorizes a public‑private partnership with Entera LLC "in support of Entera's current proposed project to expand fiber based broadband access and services to unserved and underserved areas of Eastern Chippewa County," and Resolution 23‑26 authorizes a similar agreement with CTC Telecom, d/b/a Mosaic Technologies. Both resolutions direct the county administrator to execute the agreements on behalf of the county and were forwarded to the board by the executive committee.
A county staff presenter told the board these partnerships do not include direct county financial contributions but instead provide general support (permitting assistance, public awareness and cooperation) that helps providers score points on Public Service Commission grant applications. "No direct financial contribution, just essentially providing general support," the presenter said.
Staff said the two companies intend to apply for PSC broadband expansion grants covering similar geographic areas in eastern parts of the county. Both resolutions passed 19‑0.
