Chairman Kevin Powers and district administration walked the committee through revisions across governance (electronic participation during declared disasters, agenda timelines, public-comment rules), fiscal management (internal controls and budget reporting), instruction (family-life education timing, device-use rules for early grades, athletics participation for eligible private-school students) and personnel (E-Verify requirements, revised leave language and a clarified Teacher Code of Conduct). The committee discussed specific textual concerns — for example, Mr. Harold Rounds proposed clarifying the phrase "is authorized to" in the drug-and-alcohol testing policy to require implementation when federal law mandates it; he agreed to submit proposed wording for legal review.
The committee approved the emergency revisions and voted to forward them to the full Board for immediate approval so the district’s policies align with state law effective July 1. Committee materials and revised policies have been posted on the district website for public review, and administration said legal counsel reviewed the changes.
