District to switch summer meal sites to bulk pickup at three locations

Fayette County Public Schools will consolidate its 2026 summer feeding program from multiple daily sites to bulk pickup at three locations (May 28–July 16); families must register in advance and pick up meals Mondays and Thursdays between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
During the Education, Sports, and CTE Committee meeting on May 21, Mrs. Plunk presented changes to the district’s 2026 Summer Feeding Program, including a transition to a bulk meal pickup model.
Beginning May 28 and running through July 16, meals will be distributed at three pickup sites — Buckley-Carpenter Elementary School, LaGrange-Moscow Elementary School and West Junior High School — on Mondays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Families will receive three days of meals on Mondays and four days on Thursdays. Parents or legal guardians may pick up meals without children present; proxy pickup is not permitted, and families must register in advance using a paper form or QR code.
Mrs. Plunk said registration helps the district forecast participation, reduce food waste and plan meal production. She also noted that children do not have to be enrolled in Fayette County Public Schools to participate, and Summer Learning Camp attendees will receive meals while attending camp plus weekend take-home meals. The district will provide additional distribution assistance through community partner locations, including the YMCA.
Dr. McPherson told the committee the district consolidated sites because several previous locations were not financially sustainable. Administration explained projections are based on family registrations, previous participation data and adjusted estimates related to the reduction from 24 meal sites to three. The committee thanked Mrs. Plunk for the presentation; no vote was required.
