On the AI policy, staff said the district uses scanning tools for electronically submitted papers that can flag AI-generated content; the handbook change would acknowledge the board-adopted policy and direct students and families to the procedures already in place.
Regarding homeschool and online credits, staff cited work policy 24-13 and described a committee-based approach: parents seeking credit must supply documentation such as hours and curriculum outlines, and the district may require coursework exams for course equivalency. Staff said the district is trying to clarify procedures because more students are transitioning to homeschool or online settings.
For honors recognition, staff proposed a change to the honors-pathway requirements (page 99 of the handbook): one option would be three years of math including precalculus plus four years of science; the alternative would be four years of math including precalculus or AP statistics plus three years of science. Board members discussed residency and transfer timing and whether late transfers should be eligible for honors recognition; staff noted existing practices to maintain fairness when students return from out-of-district programs.
Staff will draft handbook language reflecting the AI acknowledgement and homeschool-credit procedures and bring recommended text to the board for formal adoption.
