Town submits MOD grant for accessibility upgrades; commission to review sidewalk-mapping report
Summary

At the June 13 meeting the town’s assistant town manager told the Commission on Disability that staff submitted a Massachusetts Office on Disability (MOD) grant for accessibility upgrades at Bridal Meadow and Wiccansee parks and for door upgrades at several town buildings, including the old town hall, the police station and the Center for Active Living.
The assistant town manager said the town will not know the outcome of the MOD grant until the fall and that staff will share the recently completed sidewalk-mapping report — prepared with last year’s MOD funds — with commission members. She recommended placing the report on the August meeting agenda for further discussion.
Separately, a commission member described emerging sidewalk-mapping technology used in other communities that speeds mapping work (reducing what previously took one to two years down to eight to ten weeks) and suggested exploring that tool for local accessibility planning.
Commission members asked staff to circulate the sidewalk-mapping report in advance of the August meeting so the commission can advise on priorities for physical improvements if grant funding is awarded.
