Committee accepts parks plan, grants city easement and hears courthouse renovation update

The Cumberland County Building and Grounds Committee on May 11 accepted an updated Parks & Recreation master plan required by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation to remain eligible for certain grants, granted a utility easement on the courthouse lawn for a new Crossville traffic signal, and received an update on ongoing courthouse renovations.
Mayor Foster told the committee the parks plan update—required every three years by TDEC—adds the amphitheater to the county’s asset list and removes several closed trails. Jack moved to accept the plan and Greg seconded; no members opposed and the motion carried.
The City of Crossville requested a utility easement on the far northwest corner of the courthouse lawn at Fourth and Main Streets to install a new traffic light. Jack moved to grant the easement, Jerry seconded, and the committee approved the request with no opposition.
On the courthouse renovation, Mayor Foster reported that replacement doors damaged in the Northside fire are pending delivery and that the large courtroom will be used for the May County Commission meeting. The meeting noted that the new A/V system has not yet been installed and that the county will borrow a sound system for the May meeting. An open house for the renovated courthouse is planned for Friday, June 5, 2026, beginning around 3 p.m. Parts for the courthouse clock have been ordered and will be custom made to restore all four faces.
The committee set its next meeting for June 16, 2026, at 5 p.m. and adjourned at 5:22 p.m. after Joe moved to adjourn and Charlie seconded; minutes were recorded by Torey LaMontagne.
