The Muscatine Community School District board approved a lengthy consent agenda and several procurement items, and voted to rescind two district policies during its July meeting.
On a single motion, the board approved the consent agenda, which included minutes, bills and claims, employment recommendations, the transfer of 90% of state special-education funds to the AEA, and multiple memoranda of understanding with local partners. The board then voted to approve specific purchases: a commercial dishwasher from Wilson Restaurant Supply for $167,584.23 and two 2025 Chevrolet Express 3,500 passenger vans from Nextgen Motors (one for $43,680 and one for $43,430), each approved on separate motions.
The board voted to rescind board policy 603.04 ("multicultural gender fair education") and 603.10 ("global education"). During discussion one director stated they did not agree with the rescission; the motion nevertheless carried after the roll-call vote included at least one 'nay.' Board members noted the change followed recent legislative developments and guidance from the Iowa Association of School Boards and that district practice would not change immediately.
The board also approved a paper order for $26,292. The meeting included a first reading of new disruptive behavior policies and related administrative regulations; board members asked for clarifications about how requests for extended leaves under the disruptive behavior policy would be handled and were told accompanying regulations will be developed.
All routine motions passed at the meeting, and the board adjourned following announcements about a July 14 work session and the next regular meeting on Aug. 10.
