Lakewood selects student art for next round of utility-signal-box wraps

Miss Miles, representing the Arts Commission, told the council the signal-box wrap program prioritized youth submissions and selected complementary pairings for double boxes at seven locations. "Some of them are very young students that put us all to shame," Miles said, noting many of the selected artists are under 15 and that the commission has proofs to ensure artist credit and placement.
Deputy Mayor Isabelle Bell praised the outreach and urged staff to invite the young artists for public recognition when the wraps are installed. Staff said the wraps are ready for print and installation within two to three months, and the Arts Commission will return in September with an update on additional boxes, a proposed sculpture project on the Gravelly loop and publicity plans.
Council members asked that artist names and ages be included on plaques or recognition elements, and staff said proofs will show how signatures/plaques will appear on the installed wraps. The city anticipates the installations will be part of a broader public-art rollout tied to communications and community events.
