Francestown board approves VoIP phone upgrade for school building

The Francestown Independent School District Board voted June 17 to proceed with replacing the school building's aging NEC phone system with a voice-over-IP system offered by NH VoIP.
Mark Schaub, SAU Systems Administrator, presented options and costs for the Francestown building and said the upgrade would match the standard of care used elsewhere in the district. Selectman Charlie Pyle suggested the Board consult the Town's IT security vendor, Evertech, once Francestown separates from the SAU network to ensure appropriate security configurations.
Pat Troy moved that the Board proceed with the phone system upgrade for the Francestown building at the same standard of care as the rest of the district; David Stahlin seconded and the motion passed unanimously by voice vote. The minutes record the Board's approval but do not record numeric vote counts.
On a related technology item the Board reviewed several options for a future district domain name, including fisdnh.org, francestownschools.org, francestownk12.org and francestownisd.org. A motion to accept francestownisd.org was made and then withdrawn after discussion of timing and budget; the Board will revisit the matter once transition funds are available.
The Board discussed whether SAU technical staff should have formal authorization to communicate with outside vendors on the Board's behalf and reached a consensus that SAU technical staff may participate as members of the public and that other requests should be routed through Dr. Ann Forrest or designated SAU staff.
