CHARLESTOWN CITY — The Charlestown City Common Council recognized resident Luis Castro on July 6 for a lifesaving rescue at a neighborhood pool.
The mayor said Barbara Carden contacted city hall to report that the previous day a child nearly drowned at a neighborhood pool. According to the mayor’s remarks, a neighbor — later identified as Luis Castro — jumped in, pulled the child from the water, removed the child’s goggles and turned the child on their side to help expel water before emergency medical services arrived.
The council presented Castro with a certificate of recognition and a challenge coin "in recognition of community service and life saving response." The mayor said the city appreciated Castro’s quick actions and the community gathered for a group photo.
No formal action or vote was required for the recognition.
