The Village of Germantown Plan Commission on July 13 tabled a zoning‑permit application from the Eastern Kettle Moraine Moose Lodge for a 24‑by‑30‑foot accessory storage building at W198 N10217 Appleton Avenue so staff and the applicant could refine exterior materials and a landscaping/screening plan.
Jordan, planning staff, said the applicant had asked to move quickly but staff had recommended tabling because the packet lacked clarity on exterior enhancements and landscaping. Jordan said the lodge intends to remove an existing shipping container and use the proposed building for storage, but the commission sought visual improvements on the elevation facing Appleton Avenue and screening for on‑site porta‑potties and RV parking.
Commissioners suggested options such as wainscoting, different metal panel profiles, and a modest buffer of deciduous and evergreen trees from the corner of the lot toward the last RV stall to break up sightlines. Commissioner S4 said a wainscoting or different metal paneling and coordinated door/roof colors would help; S11 recommended extending a planting buffer to screen the RV area and improve the view from Appleton Avenue.
Given the desire for enhancements and the limited time for applicant revisions prior to publishing the packet, the commission voted to table the application and asked staff to work with the applicant on a revised set of plans that addresses materials, screening and the removal of the shipping container. The motion to table carried by voice vote; staff will bring revised plans back to a future meeting.
