The Parks & Recreation board approved deposits to reserve three bands for the upcoming Sounds of Summer concert series and discussed the budget implications and sponsorship outreach.
Staff member presented options and dates: Holiday (Aug. 22, fee cited $2,500), Sylvia (June 27, cited $3,500) and Castaways (July 25, cited $3,500). Staff explained deposits (roughly 10%) are required to hold dates, and the board discussed whether to pay now or wait for the next budget cycle.
After reviewing finances, staff moved "that we paid $43.50 to take care of the deposits for the 3 vans...to be sent in as soon as possible" (language as recorded in the transcript). The motion was approved by voice; Chair called for 'Aye' and no opposition was recorded on the transcript. Members noted that sponsor contributions and the town's budget allocation could offset the deposits and recommended presenting totals to the board's April meeting for additional approval if needed.
The discussion also covered promotion (Facebook, water-bill inserts), recruiting 3–5 food trucks for event nights, and actively seeking corporate sponsors (Waste Pro was named as an example). Staff committed to outreach to food-truck contacts and to return with sponsor proposals.
