Assistant Fire Chief Royal Edgerly told the Board of Selectmen that the Farmington Fire Department was awarded a $13,100 opioid‑abatement grant aimed at overdose prevention, emergency response and workforce training.
Edgerly outlined proposed uses: approximately $8,750 for equipment (including Automated External Defibrillators), $1,800 for training and workforce development, $1,200 in community kits and $750 for wound-care kits; outreach and education were budgeted at about $2,550. "It’s $13,100 there’s no match up front," Edgerly said, asking the board for permission to accept the award.
Selectmen noted RSA requirements for accepting and expending unanticipated funds above $10,000. Selectman John Scruton cited RSA 31:95‑b III and reminded the board that the acceptance must be posted in the newspaper and noticed seven days prior to a public hearing. The board asked staff to schedule a hearing and return with the formal 'accept and expend' warrant article language.
The board praised staff for pursuing grant opportunities and discussed coordination with Welfare and other nonprofits for outreach. Henry and other staff said once the hearing is scheduled they will publish required notice and return to the board with the formal acceptance item.
