Parks & Recreation Director Erica LaBombard briefed the Farmington Board of Selectmen on June 29 on a busy summer season: summer camp expanded through eighth grade and has reached full enrollment; the department has established a community garden at 82 Bay Road; and Hay Day planning has begun with vendor recruitment and logistics.
LaBombard said the community garden is now fenced and contains about four active participants so far; the program expanded beds (from six to eight) and donated wood chips reduced overgrowth. "If you haven't been to it, it's on 82 Bay Rd. and it is beautiful," she said.
LaBombard described expanded programming for older campers and a counselor‑in‑training pathway aimed at developing future staff. She also noted partnership events — "Wednesday Evenings in the Park" with Goodwin Library — and senior trips that have received positive feedback.
On Hay Day, LaBombard and Town Administrator Jason Henry said today’s meeting focused on route closures, staffing and vendor placement; police overtime estimates to staff the event run from roughly $6,500 to $9,000 depending on manpower needs. LaBombard is offering a 20% vendor discount (save $6) for vendors who sign up before July 5 to help lock in spaces.
LaBombard said the department is forming a Friends of the Rec group to support programming and fundraising and is pursuing phase‑two playground improvements (additional swings) funded from the revolving account.
