Cookeville council approves sidewalk, roadway change orders and equipment purchase

Cookeville City Council on Thursday approved several contract closeouts and a high-value equipment purchase.
Public works staff presented a final adjustment for the SR 24 (Spring Street) Sidewalk Phase 2 project: a net contract deduct of $30,789.43, reducing the contract from $913,582.65 to $882,793.22. The project is TDOT-funded with a 95/5 grant match (city responsible for the 5% local match). "It is a net total deduct of $30,789.43," Mary Beth said, recommending approval; council voted to approve the change order unanimously.
The Henley Drive roadway extension closeout was also approved. Staff reported the contractor completed the work in 98 days (original contract 150 days), with additional items of $13,005.20 resulting in a final contract price of $547,500.20; council approved the closeout.
Council authorized purchase of a Vermeer horizontal grinder via Sourcewell contract for a final price of $724,559.85 after trade-in and parts credit. Insurance recovery for the lost grinder is $251,637; Putnam County will contribute 50% of the city’s share (reported as $236,461.43). Staff recommended approval contingent on the county cost-share arrangements; council approved the purchase on recorded vote.
All three items were approved on council votes during the meeting. The Public Works Department will complete standard closeout and payment arrangements, and staff listed timelines for final documentation and county cost-share agreements.
