He said much of the furniture appears entirely new rather than reused and argued the district could have procured equivalent items at roughly 33% less based on his own online search.
"I personally, just Joe Schmo, can get the equipment for 33% less," Fitzpatrick said, and he asked why the community was not given an opportunity to bid on the furniture or review the details before authorization. He urged the board to take a more active role in overseeing large spending tied to building projects.
Other public commenters raised concerns about property tax increases and asked the board to consider the burden on families as expenditures and staffing increase.
Board members acknowledged the comments and said administration was managing construction and procurement; no immediate action was taken during the meeting beyond noting the public comment for the record.
