Brownsboro Village approves $6,500 contract to fix sidewalk tripping hazards

The Brownsboro Village City Commission voted Nov. 12 to accept a $6,500 quote from Flynn Brothers to repair sidewalk tripping hazards.
Mayor Mark Joyce moved to accept the Flynn Brothers quote; Commissioner Brian Willis seconded. The motion passed by voice vote with Mayor Joyce and Commissioner Willis voting in favor, Commissioner Maryellen Howley opposed and Commissioner Whitney Hankins recorded an abstention.
Treasurer Brian Shanks had earlier presented the Sept. 2024 cash-basis financial statement, which commissioners approved. Commissioner Maryellen Howley asked that the city's certificates of deposit be included in future financial statements; the request was noted.
The repair contract decision came amid a broader discussion about the condition of the city’s streets. Commissioner Howley said she believes the city has sufficient funds and that the streets need repaving, while Mayor Joyce said the city had received two professional opinions that repaving was not required at this time. Commissioner Willis said commissioners could revisit repaving if the streets became a structural problem.
The commission did not take a separate vote on repaving at the meeting. The Flynn Brothers repairs are scheduled to address tripping hazards as described in the contractor's estimate.
