Skate park dirt work resumes after artifact finds; board approves recommending a new merry-go-round

Park work on the long-planned skate park resumed this week after delays for weather, the board learned June 8. Littoral (park liaison) said crews returned to site and reported finding about four pieces believed to be Native American arrowheads; those items will be shipped to the state as part of grant protocols.
Separately, the board addressed playground safety and aging equipment. After discussing failed manufactured parts on an old merry-go-round and liability concerns, Ryan moved that the administrator and park superintendent recommend purchasing a new merry-go-round to the Board of Aldermen if funds are available in this fiscal year; the motion was seconded and passed. Park superintendent noted new equipment costs include the device, concrete piers and suitable impact-attenuating surfacing.
Board members also discussed coordinating concrete work at the skate park and playground to reduce duplication of mobilization costs, and asked staff to identify funding and timing for procurement.
