Council hears water-plant, wastewater and public-works updates; valve replacement scheduled

Town staff delivered detailed operations reports at the Sept. 9 meeting covering water production, wastewater maintenance, public-works service requests and planned equipment replacements.

On water operations, staff reported monthly production as "32,500,000" (the transcript did not specify units). They said the water plant is running well but noted that getting raw water to the plant remains a challenge in places. In wastewater, staff said grease and trash build up at several lift/station locations and that they were scheduling haul-away and cleaning to reduce recurring problems.

A critical maintenance item discussed was replacement of two specialty valves at the raw water pump station. Staff said one valve (a 1996 model) is inoperable and prevents the town from operating a brand-new pump purchased last year; vendor visits were scheduled to begin on the 12th to replace the valves and complete installation.

Public-works crews reported routine activity (brush work orders, meter installs and checks), an upgrade of the splash-pad feed line to thicker pipe over the fall/winter to better handle loads, and continued stormwater mapping expected to finish by the end of September.

Police and public-safety staff separately reported vehicle and equipment updates: two new detective vehicles were acquired, older vehicles are being sold, and in-car camera installs for eight patrol vehicles were being completed this week.

What’s next: Staff said they would proceed with valve replacements and report progress to the council; staff also flagged upcoming public events that will require extra officer coverage and ongoing maintenance tasks for parks and stormwater systems.
