The Stevensville School Board unanimously approved an out-of-state travel request for FCCLA students to attend the national leadership conference in Washington, D.C., July 5–11.
Two students who earned top finishes at the state competition addressed the board about the projects that qualified them for nationals. McKenna Brown, a senior, described her event "Focus on Children," which she said involved designing elementary financial-education curriculum and presenting it to local classrooms. "I designed the curriculum, designed the workshop, and took this all to our elementary students," Brown told trustees.
Maddie Clinton, a junior, spoke about her "teacher training" event, saying she researched the teaching profession, projected job openings and salaries, and developed lessons based on shadowing a teacher. Board members and a classroom teacher praised the students' work; a motion to approve the travel was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote.
The board voiced support for students representing the district and noted the educational benefits of competitive CTSO experiences. The motion to approve the travel carried without recorded roll-call tallies in the meeting record.
