Britney Davidson was elected permanent chair of the Southbridge School Committee at the body's July 14 reorganization meeting in McKinnon Chambers after nominations and a roll-call vote.
The committee first swore in newly elected and returning members; town clerk Maddie Benitez administered the oath of office and collected required conflict-of-interest and oath forms. After nominations opened for chair, members moved and seconded a nomination for Britney Davidson. The committee recorded six votes in favor with one abstention and declared Davidson chair.
The committee then held a separate vote for vice chair, electing Carla Dela Cruz unanimously; the motion passed with seven votes in favor. The newly elected chair directed seating assignments and the committee took a brief recess before reconvening for its regular meeting.
Other formal actions at the reorganization portion included appointing Maria Torres as the LPAC representative and naming Norma Tysnick to CPAC. Motions and votes on those appointments were offered from the floor and carried without recorded opposing votes.
The meeting packet and public roll call showed the same team that served in the previous year was largely returned; committee members and several local officials in attendance congratulated the new leadership. A motion to recess was moved and seconded before starting the regular agenda.
The committee set its next regular meeting for Aug. 11.
