At its Feb. 10 meeting in Kotzebue the Northwest Arctic Borough Village Improvement Commission reassigned leadership and completed onboarding for a new member. Clerk Stella Atoruk swore in Charlene Sampson of Buckland, and the commission elected Daisy Weinard to serve as vice chair after nominations; the motion to close nominations passed unanimously.
The commission approved the meeting agenda and prior minutes, and commissioners used the closing remarks to flag upcoming work: Chair Marie Greene asked staff to include FY27 budget and the annual report on the April meeting agenda and suggested adding policy and procedures and inviting Wayne Hall. Hiram Walker said the commission may not have funds to distribute in April and suggested leveraging federal funds for water and sewer work.
The commission set its next meeting for April 8–9, 2026 in Kotzebue and adjourned at 9:57 AM.
