Danville selectmen approve short-notice pay for camera operators; tentatively approve $6,300 highway purchase

Annemarie Inman, chair of the Board of Selectmen, presided. During the delegate session Barry Hantman raised concerns that camera operators who travel to meetings are not paid when meetings are cancelled on short notice. Shawn O'Neil moved “to allow the camera operators to be paid two hours of time if a Board or Committee does not provide at least 48 hours’ notice of cancellation;” Scot Barr seconded. The motion passed, with four votes in favor and one abstention (Joe Hester). The board instructed that meeting notifications be sent to Hantman for the Cable Committee.
On a separate motion, Jimmy Seaver requested authorization to purchase a material screener for the Highway Department for up to $6,300 and proposed the funding come from the Highway Vehicle Capital Reserve Fund. The board discussed whether the fund's establishing warrant article explicitly permits equipment purchases. Shawn O'Neil moved and Joe Hester seconded approval of the $6,300 contingent upon confirmation that the warrant article establishing the fund includes equipment; that motion passed unanimously.
The board also recorded the approval and signing of an elderly-exemption application and unanimously approved the public minutes of June 15, 2026, after Joe Hester moved and Shawn O'Neil seconded the minutes motion. At 7:36 p.m., Joe Hester moved and Shawn O'Neil seconded to adjourn; that motion passed unanimously.
What this means: Camera operators who travel to cover meetings now have a clear, limited-pay protection when cancellations occur with less than 48 hours' notice. The highway purchase was approved conditionally; the town will not transfer the $6,300 until town staff or the Trustees of the Trust Fund confirm that equipment purchases are an allowable use of that reserve fund.
