At its annual organizational meeting the Tea Area School District 41-5 Board of Education elected Jason Bennett president, Jay Ryan vice president and administered the oath of office to Andrea Kuipers.
The board opened nominations for president and a member moved, “I nominate Jason Bennett for president,” after which the board cast voice votes and elected Jason Bennett without recorded opposition. Jay Ryan was nominated and elected vice president by voice vote.
The officer elections matter because the president and vice president serve as authorized signatories and lead the board during the year. Staff also presented and the board approved a package of administrative designations — including Robert’s Rules of Order as parliamentary guidelines, official depositories, authorized signatures for district accounts, and dual legal counsel — that the newly elected officers will implement.
Staff member (speaker 3) invited Andrea Kuipers to take her seat as a new board member and the board secretary administered the oath. Andrea Kuipers responded to the oath, “I do,” and was welcomed to the board.
All votes on the officer elections and the designations were taken by voice vote with no recorded roll-call tallies provided in the meeting record. The board will carry the new leadership into the upcoming fiscal and policy work of the year.
