Cave City amends noise ordinance to 10 p.m. quiet hours, sets 65 dB enforcement threshold

Officer Courtway presented the Noise Committee’s review and recommendation at the March 12 Cave City special session, saying the committee examined other municipal ordinances, state guidance and decibel readings from the Deaf Institute.
The committee recommended that the city set quiet hours to end at 10:00 p.m. (rather than midnight), purchase a decibel reader to be used at the edge of the complainer’s property for enforcement, and set a 65-decibel limit, while recognizing exceptions such as trains and city events. Officer Courtway stated, "65 decibels will be the limit."
Councilmember Clifton Parsley moved to adopt the committee’s recommendations and Ronald Coffey seconded. The roll-call vote recorded five yes votes and one abstention (Leticia Cline); the motion was approved. The council directed staff to pursue procurement of a decibel reader and to prepare enforcement procedures.
