Calvert City completed the first reading of Ordinance 25-10, which amends local liquor licensing to permit an extended-hours supplemental license allowing certain qualifying historic-site licensees to sell alcohol until 2 a.m. under stipulated conditions. The reading (delivered by the clerk/reader) included provisions requiring licensees to take reasonable measures to discourage unlawful activity, maintain adequate outside lighting and regulate noise and patron conduct; the ordinance also specifies grounds for revocation or suspension tied to unauthorized gambling or unlawful enterprise.
Councilors queried how daylight-savings time interacts with the 2 a.m. closing requirement; staff explained the language preserves 2 a.m. as the cut-off and handles clock changes in the usual statutory fashion. The city noted only a small number of licensees in town (the state park and Marshall Yard-related holder were cited) would qualify for the extended-hours provision.
A roll-call vote on the first reading recorded the same four present yes votes with two absences; the first reading passed and the ordinance will return for subsequent readings as required.
