Kentucky Department of Education officials told the House Budget Review Subcommittee on Primary and Secondary Education and Workforce Development on Jan. 13 that they are seeking additional funding for the Kentucky Education Technology System (KETS).
David Couch, chief information officer and associate commissioner for the Office of Education Technology at the Kentucky Department of Education, and Marty Park, chief digital officer in the same office, presented the funding request and outlined the program background and need for increased resources. In response to Representative Tina Bojanowski, Couch said the current KETS appropriation is $15.4 million per fiscal year.
The request was presented as a budget item to the subcommittee; the transcript does not specify a proposed dollar amount for the increase or any timeline for action. Committee members asked clarifying questions during the presentation but recorded minutes do not show a vote or direction to staff.
The subcommittee took no formal action on the KETS request during the meeting. Committee materials related to the presentation were made available online by the Legislative Research Commission.
