Elk County board approves collapsing one full-time court clerk position and creating a part-time clerk

The Elk County Salary Board voted to collapse one full-time clerk position in district court 59303 and replace it with a part-time clerk position, effective Sept. 7, 2026. Chair Fritz Lucker (Elk County commissioner) presented the request on behalf of Judge McMahon and said the change was proposed under the county’s salary system at salary grade 5.
Ian Caldat, board administrator and chief clerk, told the board he had received a written letter from Judge McMahon explaining the judge’s scheduling conflict and expressing full support for collapsing the full-time post and creating the part-time position. "He chose to submit a letter of support for the request," Caldat said and asked that the letter be made part of the record.
Board members asked no substantive questions and the motion to approve the personnel change was adopted by voice vote. Chair Lucker announced the motion carried.
The change applies specifically to district court 59303 (Judge Jacob’s office in St. Mary, as described in the request) and would reclassify the incumbent employee to part-time status under the stated salary grade. The board did not specify any budget line-item changes during the meeting.
The Salary Board adjourned after approving this and other agenda items. The next scheduled meeting is Oct. 1, 2026, in Maryville.
