Staff introduced the policy and said it provides guidance about where and how the city’s workforce and elected officials should use AI tools. Council members from larger jurisdictions said similar policies have been adopted in other cities and praised the proactive approach. One council member noted the policy was similar to larger-city policies and recommended adoption.
Council member (speaker 6) moved to adopt the policy; the motion was seconded and the council voted 5-0 in favor. The policy will be added to city governance documents and staff will manage any required training or compliance steps.
What’s next: Staff will finalize distribution of the policy to employees and elected officials and track any needed training, record-keeping or periodic review requirements.
