The committee member summarized the letter, saying the language had been vague and Casella "was good enough to do that in the letter that they sent over." The chair moved to accept the letter and the motion passed by voice vote.
Board members said the wording in the original agreement left room for differing interpretations of what the $25,000 covered and the clarification removes uncertainty about whether certain review expenses would be reimbursed. One Select Board member said the letter "looked like it covered everything" and another said the board could accept it without sending it to legal.
The board directed staff to ensure Warren Green, the new Select Board member, receives the HCA correspondence once he has been sworn in and to distribute the committee letter to the board email addresses.
Background: the HCA committee had considered offering a counterproposal rather than simply accepting Casella's original offer; the clarification letter was intended to make the town's options clearer during that review process.
