Mattawan Consolidated School Board approves multi-year budgets, $300,000 science curriculum purchase and pay-structure changes

The Mattawan Consolidated School Board on June 8 approved a slate of budget and administrative measures, including amended 2025–26 budgets, preliminary 2026–27 budgets and a not-to-exceed $300,000 purchase for science curriculum resources.
The board, chaired by President Shari Magrath, approved the consent agenda that included five personnel hires and the May 11, 2026 regular meeting minutes. Mark Noffsinger moved to approve the consent agenda, which passed with six members present and one absent (Vice President Ted Roethlisberger).
In new business, Vickie Mabin-Herzberg, board secretary, moved and Marika Hawes-Ruhrup, treasurer, seconded a resolution authorizing the purchase of science curriculum resources not to exceed $300,000 from the General Fund; the motion passed on roll call. The board also approved a District Sex Education Co-Chair Approval Resolution and affirmed membership in the MHSAA for 2026–2027.
The board approved the 2025–26 General Fund final amended budget, the 2025–26 Food Service final amended budget and the 2025–26 Activity Fund final amended budget. It also approved the 2026–27 preliminary budgets for the General Fund, Food Service, and Activity Fund and adopted a short-term borrowing resolution to authorize temporary borrowing for the fiscal year.
On compensation policy, the board approved a Non-Union Pay Structures Resolution on a motion by Vickie Mabin-Herzberg supported by Onur Arugaslan. The record shows two abstentions (Mark Noffsinger and Rick George); the motion nevertheless passed.
