Commission OKs agreement to house Franklin County juveniles at Williamson detention center

The Williamson County Commission approved an interlocal agreement on July 13 authorizing the Williamson County mayor to enter into a contract with Franklin County to house juveniles in the Williamson County juvenile detention center.
Judge Guffey explained the arrangement: Williamson County currently holds out-of-county juveniles infrequently (49-57 juveniles annually in recent years) and typical stays are short, often one or two overnight stays. Under the agreement, Franklin County will pay $200 per day for each juvenile housed and will be responsible for medical and dental services for those juveniles.
Commissioners asked operational questions about frequency and cost coverage. Judge Guffey said the $200 daily rate was increased last year and is competitive and that the fee covers the county''s costs. The resolution passed on a recorded vote, 24-0.
Commissioners and the judge noted these contracts are common for rural counties that lack detention centers and provide capacity for occasional needs; the contract formalizes the arrangement and provides a small revenue stream to offset operating costs.
