Electric Director Steve Doyle briefed the Fort Meade City Commission on the Electric enterprise fund during the Aug. 21 budget workshop, emphasizing the need for substation maintenance and warning that rising materials costs are impacting the fund’s capital-improvement outlook.
Doyle said substation maintenance is required to preserve reliability and that the cost of materials has risen, increasing pressure on both operating and capital budgets. City staff recorded the concern and did not recommend changes during the workshop; any adjustments would require further scoping and likely appear in a later budget amendment.
Commissioners did not vote on any electric-specific appropriation at the workshop. The commission asked staff to include these concerns in future budget materials so elected officials can consider them during subsequent budget deliberations.
