Pierz Council approves routine permits, public works updates and announces election filing dates

The Pierz City Council on June 22 approved multiple planning and zoning requests for concrete permits and heard a series of administrative and public works updates.
City Clerk Sarah Fyten moved and Council Member Lynn Egan seconded motions to approve special and regular meeting minutes from June 8, 2026, and to approve planning and zoning requests for properties including 425 Main St S, 402 Park Ave SE, 234 Main St S and 390 Kamnic St; all motions carried unanimously.
Director of Public Works Rick Wacker reported that mosquito spraying has begun and will be done every Thursday, weather permitting. Premium Concrete has completed campground and resident sidewalk projects; the front of city hall work was tentatively scheduled for July 9 with expected completion the following Tuesday. Wacker said he is discussing a mill-and-overlay proposal for Vincent, Kapsner and the North Loop with SEH and will update the council when details return.
City Administrator Laura Wacker told the council that the SLFRF (coronavirus state and local fiscal recovery funds) program has been officially closed. She said a bond interest payment of $53,400 will be paid in July and staff are preparing the 2027 budget and employees' annual evaluations. Candidate filing for municipal offices opens Tuesday, July 14 and closes Tuesday, July 28 at 5:00 p.m.; the filing fee is $2. The minutes also note the Rock Roll and Stroll event on July 2 and that city hall will be closed Friday, July 3, for Independence Day.
Council approved a city workshop for July 15 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss Senior Center Board topics. The June 22 meeting adjourned at 7:29 p.m.
