The Clarke County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing June 29, 2026 at the Clarke County Courthouse to consider vacating roads and alleys in the unincorporated town of Hopeville. Clarke County Assistant Engineer Corey Eckels presented a map and the legal descriptions of the right-of-way under consideration.
Several members of the public spoke during the hearing, expressing concern that closing roads and alleys on the west side of Hopeville’s square could reduce access to the town park and worsen drainage if alleys were repurposed for other uses. The public comments were recorded by the Board but did not include formal written motions at the hearing.
The Board opened the hearing on a motion by Supervisor Brian Sorensen, seconded by Dean Robins, and later closed the hearing on a motion by Dean Robins, seconded by Brian Sorensen; the closure was recorded at 9:30 a.m. with a unanimous vote (Ayes: Randy Dunbar, Dean Robins, Brian Sorensen). Chairman Randy Dunbar said the Board will continue to review the proposed vacations and will revisit the matter at its July 13 meeting.
No final action to vacate any road or alley was taken at the June 29 session; the Board directed staff to continue review and scheduled further discussion. The hearing record will remain open until the Board addresses the item again.
